High Performance Steel

High Performance Steel (HPS) is an ideal material for components exposed to extreme conditions. Application areas for non-tooling purposes are found where the performance of conventional engineering material is insufficient.

High Performance Steel - for engineering solutions

Improve performance with High Performance Steel

Choosing the right material is an important decision to make.  For the component user, it could mean the difference between success and failure.  For the component manufacturer, it is a matter of overall economy, operational stability and competitive edge.

UDDEHOLM offers HPS-materials, knowledge and experience to help you make the right decisions, when selecting HPS-materials. Backed by extensive research and development facilities, our experts will guide you in the selection, heat treatment, machining and welding of HPS-materials. Typical application areas for HPS-materials include:

  • Machine components
  • Shredders and mills
  • Cutting tool holders
  • Wear plates
  • Powder Metal (PM) Cutting tools

THG 2000

High-strength special steel with good machining properties for demanding applications

THG 2000 is a chromium-molybdenum-vanadium-alloy steel developed for such applications as indexable insert drill and milling cutter bodies.

Its main features are:

  • High resistance to abrasion at both low and high temperatures
  • Good toughness and ductility
  • Excellent high-temperature strength and resistance to thermal fatigue
  • Very good through-hardening characteristics and suitability for air hardening
  • Very little distortion during hardening

Compared with a normal tool steel, the machinability is improved, which facilitates such operations as drilling and tapping small holes. It is particularly suitable for induction-hardening and can also be given a PVD coating without reducing the hardness of the tool.
